Making Cities Work: Towards our Urban Future
With the world’s population now majority urban, and most of this urban growth taking place in developing countries, USAID programs are becoming more affected by issues of rapid urbanization. Cities can be engines of economic growth and innovation, but they can also be places where overcrowding, crime, and poor health conditions endanger vast swaths of the population.
USAID has recently begun revisiting its work in urban areas to ensure that it adequately addresses today’s challenges, including climate change, health, water and sanitation, natural and man-made disasters. Municipal officials are grappling with an increasing demand for urban services at a time when financial resources are in short supply. USAID welcomes your support in the coming months as we help cities work towards our common urban future.
